Description
Woman’s dress, possibly wedding dress in cream silk woven with yellow flowers and cream satin.Square neckline, decorated on inner edge with cream silk net, with piped edge border. Fitted bodice fastening centre front with eleven crochet-covered buttons. Three-quarter length sleeves with double pleated cuff, finished with net on inner edge. Peplum extended into pleated tails at back, piped edge around bottom. Full-length skirt, narrow triangular panel centre front with horizontal ruched pleats, two curved-bottom panels either-side with lower edge trimmed with chenille fringe. Fullness pulled to back to form small bustle with ruched and gathered fishtail with train with a panel on left side trimmed with chenille fringing, pleated frill around hem. Lined with cotton net with internal elastic tapes. Probably worn by Anne H Winfield at her marriage to the Rev. Canon Samson Banfield Barradell-Smith.
